Our School
Students & Programs
We have admitted 175 students this year! This includes our Early Age Class children. The daily attendance rate is around 80%, the national public school average is 84.3%.
We have also launched our Computer Pilot Project with Class Five students. Regular computer classes for all grades are planned to begin in January 2027.
Teaching Team
Our LHC school currently has 13 teachers and support staff. We had 2 teachers (Simon and Bipasha) leave us for personal reasons at the start of the year, but thankfully we were able to recruit 2 new teachers to join us! Akhi and Prottasha are already doing an excellent job.
Mala's son Matthew has also joined part time to teach the Computer class and to build a fun and interactive curriculum for the coming year!
Challenges
In our slum area, there are many large madrasas - Islamic schools that mainly teach the Quran and do not teach the government curriculum for primary education. Each year, around 20 students leave our school during June and July to attend the madrasa due to family pressure.
Student Feature
This is Rakmin, she is the first girl of Class 5. She is 12 years old with an older sister and an younger sister. Her parents are daily laborers who get jobs for construction sites and other manual labor work. Rakmin wants to be a top computer teacher. She is working very hard to reach this goal.
Clothing Tailor Training
10 women enrolled in the first batch of our tailor training,
7 of them successfully completed the course in June! Each graduate received a sewing machine to help them start earning an income from home. You can watch a recap from our day of celebration here!
